For Adelaide's Rebecca Morse (Bec) and Marie Kargiotis — also known as The Style Hosts — great design is never just about what you see. It’s about what you feel when you step inside.
When they set out to design and build a modern Mediterranean-inspired home in Warradale, Adelaide, they wanted each space to feel calm, fresh and timeless — ready for future owners to walk in and feel instantly at home.
“Our vision for this project was to create a modern Mediterranean-inspired space, with a fresh, airy feel,” says Marie. “We focused on soft white tones, organic curves, light timbers, and a carefully curated mix of gold and bronze finishes to bring warmth and elegance.”

A fresh, airy exterior sets the tone for Bec & Marie’s modern Mediterranean-inspired home.
From Concept to Completion
A fireplace was part of Bec & Marie’s vision from the very beginning — they knew it would anchor the home’s open-plan heart. Early in the build, they connected with Adam and Zoe at Stoke Fireplace Studio Adelaide — and worked together to shape their plans from concept to completion. They engaged Adam at the start of the design process to ensure their vision for the home would come to life.
After seeing the range and talking it through with the team, they chose the Escea DS1150 Gas Fireplace — a sleek, frameless design that balances impact and restraint in equal measure.
“We chose the Escea DS1150 gas fireplace because it was the perfect fit for the home — both in size and design. It’s large enough to create a statement, yet the slim, fine frame gives it a delicate, refined presence.”

The Escea DS1150’s sleek frameless profile complements the clean, modern interior.
To complement the home’s calm, layered palette, they chose a Traditional Log fuelbed — handcrafted and lifelike, adding a soft natural element that makes the fireplace feel timeless, even when it’s not lit.
“The logs added a beautiful natural element that worked seamlessly with our overall palette, and we loved the finish — it felt considered, warm and just right for the space.”

Handcrafted for a lifelike look, the Traditional Log fuelbed adds warmth and natural texture to the space.
Today, the fireplace doesn’t just warm the living area — it defines it.
“The fireplace became a key feature in the open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area,” says Marie. “Its natural look complements the Mediterranean tones throughout the home and adds a sense of comfort and warmth, especially during the cooler months. It really anchors the space and brings a cosy, lived-in feel when it’s on.”

Crafted in New Zealand, the Escea fireplace features Flexible Flue technology which allows seamless installation into builds like Bec & Marie’s project.
Design Freedom, Made Simple
Bringing their vision to life was simple with Stoke Fireplace Studio Adelaide.
“Working with the team at Stoke was so easy,” says Marie. “Adam in particular was incredibly knowledgeable, relaxed and down-to-earth, which made the entire installation process smooth and enjoyable.”
Escea’s Flexible Flue system made it easy to fit the fireplace into their duplex layout too — letting the design lead, not the logistics. And like all Escea gas fireplaces, the DS1150 is simple to use, with heat and flame controlled by remote or the SmartHeat App — so future owners can stay warm without missing a moment.

Set the mood your way — Escea’s gas fireplaces are effortlessly controlled using the remote or SmartHeat App.
For Bec and Marie, the fireplace brought that feeling home — and the process with Stoke made it all the more rewarding. Good design, practical technology, and local expertise came together to create a space that feels warm, inviting and ready to welcome its next owners.
“This project reminded us to trust our instincts,” says Marie. “Sometimes the best design decisions come from going with your gut rather than overthinking every detail. It reinforced our belief that great design is about how a space feels, not just how it looks.”
