Maxen Cargill ULEB Wood Fire

ULEB Wood Fireplaces

ULEB wood fireplaces designed for New Zealand’s clean air zones — with powerful heat, low emissions, and expert support from Stoke.

The New Standard for Wood Fires in New Zealand

ULEBs — Ultra Low Emission Burners — are the future of wood fireplace heating in New Zealand. As clean air rules tighten across the country, ULEBs are increasingly the only option for new installs in many regions, including Christchurch.

They burn hotter, produce fewer emissions, and deliver more heat using less wood. And with Stoke, getting one installed and council-approved is simple.

Whether you're replacing an existing fire or planning a new build, we’ll help you find a ULEB that works for your home and your zone.

What is a ULEB?

A ULEB (Ultra Low Emission Burner) is a cleaner, more efficient wood fireplace — tested using Canterbury Method 1 (CM1) to meet strict air quality standards.

To qualify, a ULEB must:

  • Emit < 38 mg/MJ of particulates
  • Be at least 65% efficient
  • Be ECAN-approved
