When Alliera and her husband embarked on the project of a lifetime – to create a standout, forever home for them and their four children – there was only one person who could lead it: Alliera herself.
Co-founder of HAAUS, Alliera has worked on a myriad of homes with her business partner Rebecca. However, when it came to designing her own home, her work suddenly became a lot more personal. Alliera shares her vision and how her tranquil dream home became her everyday reality.
“When designing for clients, there’s a degree of detachment that allows for a more objective perspective,” Alliera says. “However, when it’s your own home, every decision carries personal significance. Each choice reflects not only aesthetic preferences but also deeply held values and aspirations. The whole concept of a “forever home” adds an additional layer of consideration. Unlike client projects where the focus may be on accommodating specific needs or trends, designing your own home involves creating a space that resonates with you on a profound level. It’s about creating a sanctuary that reflects your personality, lifestyle and long-term vision.”
A Family Sanctuary
In a nutshell, the brief was for Alliera and her family to feel like they were on holiday 24/7.
“We wanted a kitchen big enough to dance in, a backyard paradise for entertaining guests, natural light flooding each room, and a forever home designed to grow with our family."
This ethos became paramount in their product selections and design approach.
“For the living space, our main goal was to create a hub where the whole family could gather. With kids of different ages, we often find ourselves going in different directions, but we really wanted this area to be the heart of our home."
"And then, of course, there’s the fireplace. It’s not just about warmth; it’s about creating this focal point, this gathering spot where stories are shared and memories are made."
This really adds that special feeling of home to the space.
Exceptional Experience
“At the Sydney Design Show, Rebecca and I had the pleasure of coming across Jarrod and his team from Stoke Fireplace Studio, immediately drawn to them based on their excellent reputation and word-of-mouth recommendations, engaging with them about our fireplace vision.
As soon as we laid eyes on their Escea fireplace range, particularly the DS1150 model, we knew it was the perfect fit for my home,” says Alleira.
Choosing the gas model, Alliera explains, “What drew us to choose gas over other options was its convenience and efficiency. Gas fireplaces provide instant warmth and are hassle-free to operate, making them ideal for my family's busy lifestyle.”
Stoke’s professionalism, expertise and seamless service, with Escea’s modern yet timeless fireplace design, and energy efficiency were key considerations in Alliera’s decision-making.
“Escea’s reputation for quality and innovation preceded them. We were impressed by their commitment to pushing boundaries in fireplace design and technology."
The DS1150 model’s sleek, contemporary aesthetic perfectly complemented the modern vibe desired for the living space.
Curved Cohesion
“Inspired by the organic flow already present in the architecture and furnishings, we opted for a curved fireplace design," says Alleira.
"This choice not only complemented the home’s aesthetic but also contributed to a sense of cohesion and continuity within the space. The fireplace became a natural extension of its surroundings, adding to the overall inviting atmosphere and charm of our home.”
For Alliera and her family, the living space is one of the most-loved rooms in the house.
“The living space exudes warmth and comfort, creating an inviting environment where our family loves to come together to unwind and bond. With its cosy ambience, the fireplace serves as the focal point, enhancing the space’s charm and providing a gathering spot for relaxation and connection. It not only adds physical warmth but also fosters a sense of intimacy and togetherness, making it the heart of the home where we’ve been making lots of family memories.”
