Move over bi-fold doors, because Crittal doors are having a revival.
First invented in the 1880s, these graphic, latticed-style, metal-framed windows were popular in the art deco era. Today we're seeing them pop up in homes, both new and old, for an edgy feel that adds a touch of industrial style and glamour.
They work well externally, extending onto a deck or garden, adding plenty of light while also bringing in an architectural feature to your home.
Internally, use them between rooms such as a bedroom and the office, or as a room divider. The doors work just as well with modern decor as traditional. Just make sure you soften those hard edges with some softer finishes and textured fabrics.
The trend is already big in Europe where it originated but it's also gathering momentum here too. Some companies making these style windows and doors are Crittall Arnold, Southern Steel Windows and Steelguard.
