In Bar Beach, Newcastle, Orton House is the work of husband-and-wife duo Luke and Justine Orton — Luke leading construction through his building company ORTN, Justine shaping the interiors as Orton Haus. It's a partnership guided by a simple motto: ‘practical meets pretty’. This project marks another collaboration between Stoke and the pair, following on from Orton Haus 3.0.
A Considered Fit
Designed by Ziel Design and finished by Orton Haus, the home draws on coastal, natural materials — marble, solid timber, Venetian plaster — chosen as much for longevity as beauty. Within the living space, an Escea LE1000 Electric Fireplace was set into the wall, its proportions considered against the room in the same way as every other material.
“We chose the Escea LE1000 electric fireplace because its proportions suited the space perfectly and it complemented the home's understated aesthetic,” Justine says.
With Newcastle winters relatively mild, electric made sense — enough warmth and ambience without excess, and a straightforward, environmentally conscious choice for a home built around considered decisions.
Effortless By Design
For Luke and Justine, working across both construction and interiors, ease of install mattered as much as look.
“For us, it's the balance of aesthetics and practicality that makes it stand out. The flame effect feels incredibly realistic, while the installation process is simple and cost effective compared to traditional fireplace options,” Justine says.
“As a builder and interior designer, we're always looking for products that not only look beautiful but also make sense within the overall design and construction process. The LE Series allows us to create the warmth and ambience of a fireplace without the additional complexity, which is particularly valuable in modern homes where space, efficiency and simplicity are important.”
Sourced through Stoke Fireplace Studio's Sydney showroom, the Escea LE1000 is the latest example of a partnership between Stoke and Orton Haus that keeps proving good design and seamless execution can go hand in hand.
